Introducing the Recycling Station!
As one of our newest initiatives, the Recycling Station aims to reduce the amount of waste entering our landfills by encouraging students to properly recycle and compost items.
The Recycling Stations themselves are communal waste disposal units that are installed in every wing and common area. Ultimately, our goal is to have these stations completely replace classroom garbage bins in order to reduce the amount of garbage bags we use and encourage students to properly recycle or compost their waste instead.
The Recycling station initiative is one of our biggest projects up to date, and its success requires the help of the entire school. Each time you properly sort your waste, you are putting in your part towards a healthier world.
Anyone who is interested in helping is welcome to join us on Tuesdays after school in D104.

What does it look like? Each station is composed of: • A paper recycling bin (it is not like the residential recycling bins, it only takes paper!) • A compost bin • A garbage bin • A circular bottle recycling bin (for pop cans, plastic water bottles, etc. shown below) • *some stations include a battery recycling bin (small yellow container used to recycle odd items including batteries, old pens and markers, old electronics, foil chip bags, and ink cartridges) • Helpful signs and pictures of the most commonly used items at school to indicate where they go. |
Taking individual bins away from the classrooms and reducing them into these stations would significantly reduce the number of plastic bags we use.
Currently
Disposable garbage bags are used in school daily.
