Small Sunflowers
This giant branching plant is covered in a bright yellow and can look magnificent in bouquets and a fine exhibit in the garden. Take the seeds filled with vitamin E and use them in nutritious salad toppers, smoothies, loaves of bread, or even roast them with a bit of salt to get an easy to make, yet delicious snack to munch on.
These sun-loving flowers are super easy to grow and reach heights up to 3m (10”). The lemony yellow flower loves to grow in groups and doesn’t take too much space to grow. Planting these will certainly make your garden glow. |
Timing: These cheerful flowers love the sun, and it is best to plant them somewhere they’ll get tons of sunlight. Therefore, for the best results, directly sow the seed with full sun anytime from mid-April to late May.
Sowing: Sow the seeds directly 5mm-1cm deep and 15 cm apart in a site. When the small sunflowers grow they’ll need more room than other plants because their roots are longer than other plants.
Growing/Watering: Small sunflowers are heat tolerant and need warm conditions, with around 8 hours of sunlight a day. Although sunflowers are heat tolerant they require moderate watering. When watering the sunflowers remember to not overwater them, for it’s best if you barely water them, then water them too much.
Harvesting: The plant is ready to cut off when the back of the flower head turns brown. When cutting the flower, cut a bit lower than at the head of the flower.
