Super Chilies

Picture

With 40,000 - 50,000 Scoville Heat Units, these super chilies pack a surprising, hot punch! Their powerful punches are packed in flamboyant red and green, cone-shaped peppers that grow densely in pots. These super chilies will not only light up your taste buds, but your garden too.
Timing: These plants are not winter hardy and will need to be in a warm, humid setting with direct exposure to light. They should be started indoors in early March to April under bright lights, and likely remain indoors for most of the year. The nighttime low should consistently be above 12°C, meaning they would likely only be able to be outside during the summer here on Vancouver Island.

Sowing: Sow the seeds indoors 5mm - 1cm deep into soil. Keep the soil as warm as possible, with the optimal temperature for seedlings being 16°-24°C. They should be transplanted into at least 6cm (3") pots before they become root bound, then transplanted into at least 15cm (6") pots as they get bigger.

Growing: Since they will be best indoors for most of the year with the climate observed on Vancouver Island, they should be transplanted into large, deep pots where their roots can have plenty of room to grow. Besides their need for warmth and direct exposure to strong light, watering them with kelp-based fertilizers or any organic fertilizers regularly will ensure that they provide good yield.

Harvesting: When the fruit is hard, it is ripe. Leaving them to further ripen will cause them to change colour to red, yellow, or even purple. Picking green peppers will increase the total number of peppers harvested.
